Summary : Diabetes is a chronic desease carecterized by hyperglysemia with resounding on micro and macro-vessels. Sensorineural hearing loss in diabetics is secondary to micro vascular damage of the inner ear. It is an unknown microangiopathy which causes a vascular hearing loss. The aim of our study was to determine the prevalence of sensorineural hearing loss in a population of non-elderly diabetics. This is a prospective and descriptive study on 89 patients not aged followed for diabetes, spanning a period 1 year, from June 2013 to June 2014. It was sensorineural hearing loss in 85.7% of cases, bilateral in 74.30% of cases. We found isolated high frequency loss in 45.70% of cases and associated with the low-frequency loss in 48.60% of cases. Deafness was classified mild in 54.3%, moderate in 37% of patients. The hearing loss was moderate to severe in 3 cases or 8.6% of sufferers. All patients were asymptomatic. A hearing aid was offered to patients who had severe hearing loss. This work has led us to raise the issue of systematic screening for hearing loss in patients with diabetes.
